Tom Mallot
Creating images using film and digital capture them producing darkroom
prints and fine art ink-jet prints is my process. I also produce fine art images
using the Polaroid Emulsion and Image Transfer techniques. I show my
work in several art fairs in the Greater Kansas City area and in regional art
shows. I have displayed in Lee’s Summit City Hall, St. Luke’s East, and Got
Art on Third Gallery, The Gamber Center, 210 Gallery. The weekend fairs
and festivals have offered me the best way to show and sell my photographs
to the public. Art Westport, Summit Art Festival, Salina Smoky Hill River
Festival, Springfield Arts Fest, Omaha Countryside, Columbia Arts Festival
are some of the locations I have exhibited. I am very active in Summit Art,
an artist coalition in Lee’s Summit that gives me the opportunity to show my
work, and help other artists bring their creations to the general public.
My love for photography got its start during high school in Lexington,
Missouri. After graduation from William Jewell College in 1962, I began a
37-year teaching career as a science and photography teacher at East High
School in Kansas City. In 1962, I began a professional photography career
doing weddings and portraits. Raising a family, teaching, and professional
photography have been the central themes in my life for the past 60 years.
My interest in photography as a fine art has increased during the last 30
years. After retiring from teaching and phasing out the professional
assignment, I now am able to enjoy producing fine art photography and
share the wonderful stories that go with them. Teaching and working with
students has stimulated my own growth and desire to produce photograph as
an art. The Polaroid transfer gave me an alternate technique to use the
image in a creative way. Field trips, self-assignments, observations, and a
love for the outdoors are some of the ways that I use to stimulate my images.
My wish is that people who view my work will have a pleasant, positive
emotional experience.
